Finding this place was a bit of luck. Walking through Ft. William I saw the ad in a Solicitor's window. Within a couple of days I was here to see it and to be interviewed. Well it felt like an interview. Ann Scott who was selling Craigard, daughter of Mary Jane Scott, the last crofter, wanted to make sure that her Mother would approve of who ever bought the place. I must have met Mary Jane's criteria.

My working life was in farming in Scotland, Northumberland, Cumbria, Kent and Russia where I managed an EU technical assistance project in the Ministry of Agriculture. Retirement to a croft was an opportunity to carry on farming on a small scale, at a slower pace with time for idling. It's an experiment in sustainable self-reliant farming and living. The blog is an experiment too; in agricultural journalism, something I dabbled in years ago, I'm an inveterate dabbler.
